3D, 5D OR 10D? THE NUMBER ISN’T THE WHOLE STORY.
You can want beautifully dramatic lashes without a heavy, overdone look.
With volume lash extensions, a fan of several fine extensions is applied to a single natural lash. The number indicates how many extensions make up each fan: 3D means three, 5D means five, and 10D means ten.
But the number alone doesn’t determine the weight.
The load on a natural lash depends on the diameter, length and material of the extensions, how the fan is constructed and the condition of the natural lash itself.
The best volume isn’t the biggest. It’s the one that suits your natural lashes.
With careful selection, it’s possible to create noticeable fullness, a beautifully defined lash line and the desired effect without unnecessarily increasing the number of extensions on every natural lash.
That’s why choosing a set doesn’t begin with the number 10D. It begins with an assessment of your natural lashes and the look you want to achieve.
WHO ARE VOLUME LASH EXTENSIONS FOR?
3D–4D volume can be a good choice if classic or 2D extensions no longer give you the fullness you want, and you’re looking for a denser lash line and a more defined look.
5D–10D volumes allow for even more dramatic effects, but they aren’t suitable for everyone.
When choosing the right volume, your lash artist considers:
• The density and condition of your natural lashes.
• Their thickness, length and growth direction.
• The weight your natural lashes can safely support.
• Your eye shape and eyelid characteristics.
• How dramatic you want the final look to be.
When Is a Higher Volume Best Avoided?
If your natural lashes are fine, weakened or sparse, excessive weight can increase the risk of damage.
In these cases, a lighter fan construction, lower volume or a temporary break from extensions may be the better choice.
M CURL — A DISTINCTIVE LIFT
Volume is only part of the result. The right curl can significantly change how your eyes appear.
M curl creates a pronounced upward lift, helping to visually elevate the lash line.
It can be used to create a more open, elongated look or to emphasise particular areas of the eye.
This curl can be especially interesting for straight natural lashes and certain upper eyelid shapes.
But M curl isn’t suitable for everyone. Natural lash direction, eye shape and the desired effect all matter.
Your lash artist may combine different curls to create a balanced lash design rather than applying the same mapping to every client.
L CURL — GRAPHIC DEFINITION AND A DISTINCTIVE DIRECTION
L curl has a relatively straight base followed by a pronounced upward bend.
This shape creates a clearly defined lash line and can work well with certain types of natural lashes that grow straight or downward.
What Can L Curl Achieve?
• Visually lift the lash line.
• Create a graphic eyeliner-inspired effect.
• Accentuate an elongated eye shape.
• Adjust where the visual emphasis falls in relation to certain eyelid features.
However, the same curl can look completely different on different eyes.
There is no universal rule that L curl suits everyone with hooded eyelids or should always be avoided on round eyes.

Your lash artist considers the direction of natural lash growth, extension length, volume distribution and clearance from the eyelid.
Even a striking Instagram photo is only a reference. The same lash map may produce a completely different result on your eyes.
So we start with the look you want to create. Then we choose the curl and technique to achieve it.

Even 3D lashes can look soft and natural. Or bold, with a striking, graphic finish.
It all depends on the lash map, lengths, curls and placement of the accents.
Natural Effect
Lengths are distributed to complement your natural lash line. The result is added fullness and definition without dramatically changing the appearance of your eye shape.
Fox Eye Effect
The emphasis shifts towards the outer corner, creating a visually elongated look. Length and direction are carefully selected to avoid weighing down the outer edge.
Liner Effect
A more defined, graphic line along the lash line. Ideal for those who love the appearance of precisely applied eyeliner.
Wet Look Effect
Created using narrow, carefully formed lash fans that produce distinctive texture and defined, separated spikes.
Importantly, the wet look does not involve sticking natural lashes together.
Kim K Effect
A combination of a base lash line and longer accent spikes. The result is a textured, eye-catching look with intentionally varied lengths.
Doll Eye and Other Effects
The emphasis can be placed closer to the centre of the eye, towards the outer corner or distributed along the entire lash line.
There is no single lash map that suits everyone.
Don’t choose an effect just because of its name. Choose the look you want to see in the mirror.
BEAUTIFUL DEFINITION ISN’T ABOUT THE NUMBER OF LASHES.
Volume lash extensions require precise decisions about length, diameter, curl, direction and the weight placed on each natural lash.
